I am largely driven to paint abstract marshes and fields as well as fractured florals where I can weave color, line and composition through abstracted landscapes and imagined gardens inviting the viewer to widen their view of reality and “see” between the lines what lies beneath and between the layers.
I hope to portray the mind of someone living with a brain injury and mental illness as both fractured and fundamentally grounded seeking out moments of beauty and quietness within their world. Within my paintings, there are soft moments, harsh moments, moments fighting each other and others embracing. Edges and values speaking to one another, colors coalescing, and lines and shapes working together to create a place of quiet beauty within the chaos. I find that parallel between what I see on my canvas and experience in my daily living to be a way for me to navigate the world a little easier.
