Certain Degree: paintings seen and heard (artist talk during the Newburyport Artwalk)

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT TALK
Sat, Oct 15th at 10 am
indigo Artist Studio
53 Middle St. Newburyport, MA

Artist Cara Gonier gives a special talk giving the public a personal glimpse into her process of creating art via Chromesthesia.

Experience the series of abstracted landscape paintings and monotypes created by the artist representing a color palette between 180 and 300 degrees on the color wheel and hear how each of these color shifts sound to the artist.
An immersive experience for the viewer-
with the use of their own smart device, one can scan a QR code displayed next to the painting linking them to the audio of music that is composed and recorded by the artist.

By definition, Chromesthesia or Sound-to-color synesthesia is a type of synesthesia in which sound involuntarily evokes an experience of color, shape, and movement or color evoking a sound experience.
Individuals with sound-color synesthesia are consciously aware of their synthetic color associations/perceptions in daily life.
Synesthetes that perceive color while listening to music experience the colors in addition to normal auditory sensations.
This synthetic color experience supplements, but does not obscure real, modality specific perceptions. As with other forms of synesthesia, individuals with sound color synesthesia perceive it spontaneously without effort and as their normal realm of experience.

Certain Degree exhibit also features diverse paintings and printmaking by Mary Arthur Pollak and Maria Malatesta
