Andover Choral Society performs Antonio Vivaldi’s brilliant and beloved Gloria; Igor Stravinsky’s intensely passionate, unconventional masterpiece, the rarely performed Symphony of Psalms; and the world premiere of becoming, a new choral work commissioned by Andover Choral Society by local composer Demetrius Spaneas.

Originally commissioned by the Andover Choral Society for our 90^th anniversary season in 2020, we were unable to perform becoming due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This work considers some of mankind’s oldest questions: Who are we? Where did we come from? Why are we here? Drawing on texts from ancient Indian Hinduism, Greek and Roman mythology, Sufi mysticism, and the Book of Genesis, becoming explores the idea of creation as a spiritual evolution of humankind as well as our relationship with our world and all of creation.
