The Improbable Places Poetry Tour
Thursday, November 10th, 2022, 7:00 pm
The John Hale House and Farm
39 Hale Street, Beverly MA

Poem submission deadline: November 3rd. Event: Thursday, November 10th. 7:00pm

The Improbable Places Poetry Tour is Montserrat College of Art’s way of bringing together poets and enthusiastic listeners to celebrate the power of poetry and community. At each tour stop a new venue and theme is selected. Started in 2010 by Colleen Michaels, the Improbable Places Poetry Tour has traveled from bike shops to power plants, and from tattoo parlors to viking ships, with a line-up of poets each reading one poem.
The Tour stopped with a halt in 2020 and everyone was sent home, but now it is back! We resume by throwing up the sash and opening the doors of a storied home to make room for poems that mark our time indoors. Small groups of listeners will travel from room to room of the historic Hale House and Farm as poets examine the hearth, the kitchen, the window, the bedroom.
We are seeking short poems in any style that help to tell the story of home, the feeling of being indoors, or the architecture and mood of a particular room. The house is Colonial, but the poems are contemporary. Send your submissions or questions to
The submission deadline is Thursday, November 3rd.
The event is free and open to the public. As a special treat, the Blue Bird Mobile Dessert Bar will be on site with delicious hot beverages and treats for sale to keep you warm before and after your personal poetry tour.
