NAA Visiting Guest Artists: BRUSH|REED

Newburyport, MA – Newburyport Art Association welcomes NAA Visiting Guest Artists: BRUSH|REED, a painter and saxophone collaborative duo, for a two-day residency as part of Newburyport’s Spring Arts Fest.

BRUSH|REED is a collaboration between visual artist, Linnea Maas, and musician, Dr. Jennifer Bill, to explore the parallels of painting and sound through live performance. BRUSH|REED engages an audience through color, pitch, representational lines, rhythm, intensity and expression: an aural-visual experience. Jennifer transforms the printed notes of her musical score into lush soundscapes, while Linnea further interprets the music into visual color and form on her fresh canvas. The live art that blooms at every BRUSH|REED performance captivates and moves audiences. The paintings that emerge establish a visual memory of the sights, sounds, and emotions of each intimate affair, impressing upon each audience member a feeling of symbiosis between the two disciplines presented to them.

Please join us in the NAA’s Hill’s Gallery on Friday, May 13th, starting at 5:00 pm for BRUSH|REED’s preview performance of the weekend! A public reception will follow.

May 14^th holds two opportunities to experience BRUSH|REED. In the morning, in NAA’s Hartson Gallery, BRUSH|REED will be leading a workshop for those curious about their artmaking practice. The duo will lead participants through the stages of creating their own artwork with/in response to music. Experience the surprise, freedom, and delight in music and art, and discover a unique path to creativity. Participants will leave with their very own musically inspired artwork! In the afternoon, for their feature performance, BRUSH|REED will be on stage at the Firehouse Center for the Arts at 2:00 pm.
