Pastels from a photograph

Pastels from a photograph
Pastel artist Susan Ellis will demonstrate her method for painting with pastels from a photograph in this one-day workshop. Susan will demonstrate her process and assist participants with their individual photos.
We will discuss photo selection, small thumbnail sketches , large constructed drawings and pastel application techniques. We’ll go over single color value and complementary underpaintings using rubbing alcohol over pastels or gouache paint. Once dry, the underpainting can be enhanced with a full range of dry pastels. Students are welcome to paint landscape, figure or still life photos. Portraiture is discouraged as time is too short.
The class is a great way to explore pastel painting for the first time, as well as for intermediate artists who haven’t worked this way before with dry soft pastels.
