Trifles and Escaped Alone

Trifles and Escaped Alone

TRIFLES (1916) by Susan Glaspell and ESCAPED ALONE (2016) by Caryl Churchill

Written one hundred years apart in drastically different styles, these one-act plays of murder and mayhem share startling similarities, depicting the lives of women with precision, ferocity and immense empathy.  TRIFLES presents a desolate farmhouse, a disturbing crime, and two women who detect the clues their husbands refuse to see. In ESCAPED ALONE, three old friends and a neighbor chat over tea in the garden, spilling secrets and apocalyptic visions. This darkly entertaining double-bill brims with exquisite writing and remarkable characters.
