Backyard Growers

Backyard Growers is a grassroots organization that cultivates healthy, connected, environmentally sustainable communities and fights for food justice by teaching people to grow their own food. We provide resources and support to establish vegetable gardens at homes, housing communities, organizations, and schools.

In the spring of 2020 we launched agriCulture, a creative placemaking project funded by Essex County Community Foundation’s Creative County initiative. agriCulture uses storytelling, multimedia arts, and a participatory design process to create dynamic spaces in and around the community garden managed by Backyard Growers at Willowood Park, a Gloucester Housing Authority development on Maplewood Avenue in Gloucester. The project is in partnership with Gloucester Housing Authority and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce.
